My Guest Blog on "Liza America's Host" Blog

I was honored to be asked by frequent KTLA guest, Liza of Liza America’s Host, who is an amazing hosting & entertaining expert, to guest blog on her website! It is filled with all the things you need to plan and pull off a great party! Right up my alley! Please read my blog here and join her email list and Like her Facebook page to receive more fun tips.

I love to find inspiration from so many places! That is what fuels my creativity and desire to share great people and great things with you! We at Liza America’s Host would like to introduce you to JILL OF SOCIAL BUTTERFLY DESIGNS. We love her take on the importance of the personal, hand done invitation so much that we wanted to give you ideas to personalize your event, set the tone and bring MEANING to your hosting!

You may think, “Who has the time?!” That is why we recommend turning it over to Jill to free yourself and still get the benefit of the beautiful, personal invitation. Thank you for joining the party, Jill! Take it away! ... Love, Liza

Thank you, Liza! In this day and age of over-the-top electronic communications (i.e. evites, email, texting, etc.)...an eye-catching, well-designed old fashioned paper invitation can become a treasured keepsake.

I have three children and have made their invitations every year (they are now 10, 13 and 15) and I keep a copy of each invite in a special box that I plan to give them when they leave home. Not only are these invitations a tangible memory from their party but they served to set the tone for each birthday theme and can be treasured for years to come. With most electronic invitations you cannot print them or display them on your fridge or bulletin board!

With the holidays upon us, this time of year poses the chance of multiple events happening on the same night. Here are a few tips to help your event stand out in the sea of invitations that your guests may receive.
BE THE PARTY PLANNER THAT GETS ON EVERYONE’S CALENDAR FIRST IN ONE OF TWO WAYS:
1. Send out a simple save the date five to six weeks out and then follow up with the actual invitation about three weeks out with all the essential details.
2. Send out the most captivating invitation that will capture your guests’ attention and make yours an event they will not want to miss (and don’t make it an evite!)
HERE ARE SOME FUN AND CLEVER WAYS TO PUT A SPECIAL TWIST ON YOUR INVITATION FOR A SPECIAL EVENT:
* Provide all the pertinent details (what, when, where, who, rsvp, etc.)
* If there is a theme, play it up in the design (i.e. if it’s a 50th birthday party incorporate the number “50” in the invitation and call it a “Nifty at Fifty” party; for a holiday soiree perhaps something like “Champagne & Mistletoe”....be clever and come up with something fun.
* If you’ll be serving a special type of food or cocktail, you might include it in the invite as well.
* If it’s a milestone birthday, perhaps an older photo of the guest of honor will be fun.
* Dress up your envelope, get creative with your return address by way of a clever label or imprinting a design right on the envelope in keeping with the theme of your invitation.
* If you want to get a head count by a certain date, put an rsvp deadline so you get the response on time (hopefully!)
* If you want people to “fancy up” a bit, say so....something like “dress: it up!”
THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN PURCHASING YOUR INVITATIONS:
* Quality paper and printing services. * Personal service and attention to detail.
* Is this something I can do myself at home or do I need professional assistance? (sometimes things are more difficult than they look!)
* Cost and budget constraints...clever invitations don’t necessarily need to cost a lot.

I have had my graphic design/stationery business, SOCIAL BUTTERFLY DESIGNS for 12 years now and take pride in creating unique and individual works of art for my clients whether it be a message in a bottle for a destination wedding, a ticket-style invite for a sports party, a test tube of spiders for a Halloween party or you name it...I always love to hear the favorable comments my customers receive from well thought out and well-designed invitations that we have created together!    These are the invitations to the parties people don’t want to miss!
